Meet Chief Dyke

Joel Dyke was born and raised in West Monroe and, aside from 10 years serving as a missionary in southern Mexico, has called this community home his entire life. He and his wife Angel have been married for 39 years and are blessed with two daughters and three beautiful granddaughters.

Joel has served as Senior Pastor of Life Church in West Monroe since 1996, faithfully leading and investing in people for nearly three decades. He has also served alongside Marshal William Guyton for the past 27 years, including 14 years as Chief Deputy. With a heart for people and a passion for service, Joel looks forward to leading the Marshal’s Office into the future with fresh vision, unity, and a continued commitment to serving the citizens of Ward 5.

One of Joel’s most notable character traits is stability. He had been married to his wife for 39 years. He has pastored Life Church in West Monroe for 30 years. He has been employed with the West Monroe Marshal’s Office for 27 years.

  • Overseer to some 15 church campuses in southern Mexico.

  • Fluent in Spanish after graduating from King’s Way Spanish Language Institute in McAllen, Texas in 1984.

  • Serves as a Spanish Translator for the West Monroe City Court, West Monroe Police Department, Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, and other state and federal agencies when requested.

  • Graduated from North Delta Regional Training Academy on March 30, 2000.

  • Maintained Louisiana POST Certification continuously with no lapses or deficiencies.

  • Coordinated a joint effort among departments that increased monies collected by 125% in just two years.

  • Instituted professional uniforms for all West Monroe City Marshal’s Office deputies.

  • Transitioned the Marshal’s Office from unmarked units to clearly identified vehicles used for inmate transport and execution of West Monroe City Court orders throughout Ward 5.

  • Increased courtroom security by ensuring a minimum of three POST Certified deputies are present during every court hearing.

  • Established a Reserve Deputy Unit consisting of POST Certified deputies and retired law enforcement officers to provide additional manpower, annual training, and part-time support details.

  • Serves as Training Coordinator for POST Certified deputies within the West Monroe Marshal’s Office.

  • More than 27 years of law enforcement service with the West Monroe City Marshal’s Office.

  • Combines decades of law enforcement leadership, ministry experience, and community service to serve the citizens of Ward 5 with integrity, compassion, and professionalism.

  • Has mentored dozens of young men in leadership, ministry, outreach, public service, and public speaking. Many of these men serve in leadership roles at several area churches, businesses, and agencies today.
